Republicans - this is what your party is now.
It's no longer sensible conservatives cultivating the vote of the Useful Idiots and then ignoring them until the next election cycle.
It's actual people who mean all the crackpot, bigoted, uninformed things they say; who no longer express their vitriol under the cover of Internet anonymity, but do so proudly under their own names on your Facebook feed; who have never been happy with your moderate Business-first candidates; who have always wanted a personality cult who reflects their selfish bigotry and is rich enough not to be bought out; and who sincerely craves the Republican Party's inexorable drift to full-fledged National Socialism.
It’s John Birch’s final comeuppance to William F. Buckley, Jr., who knew the real Birchers would never have anyone else to vote for. It’s the generation of people who grew out of your rejection of liberal education, the necessary result of the ignorance and hatred you have carefully cultivated ever since Goldwater lost to Johnson.
If you are asking when the other shoe will drop from your base’s flirtation with Trump, you aren’t seeing reality. It’s not that they don’t really understand what a grandstanding hatemonger he is. It’s that they really, really do, and they love him for it. They will not pass up their chance to support Donald Trump. He is the preening Mussolini for whom they have been silently waiting for a very, very long time.
This is what your party is.
This is not an anomaly.
